General Political atmosphere
Matabeleland North-Tsholotsho Relatively calm In Tsholotsho North Ward 6, Chief Matupula summoned other Traditional leaders to gather at his homestead on the 16th of May 2015 to meet Jonathan Moyo who is the ZANU PF candidate for Tsholotsho. The traditional leaders were ordered to submit their names and identity card numbers and phone numbers while waiting for Jonathan Moyo who arrived later during the day. At the meeting, the Traditional leaders narrated the challenges they were facing in their areas. Prof Moyo promised to address the problems only if they vote for him in the upcoming by elections.

 

On 20 May 2015, Chief Tategulu from Nyamazana village called for a meeting at his residence which was disguised as a Traditional leaders meeting. At the meeting, Chief Tategulu asked Traditional Leaders and villagers who had come for the meeting to vote resoundingly for Jonathan Moyo in the by-election. He urged them not to repeat the “mistake” of voting for any candidate other than Jonathan Moyo as voting for him would bring food and development to their villages.

 

On the same day, Chief Tategulu also addressed villagers in Bemba village in Ward 1 and 2 and Sihazane village Ward 1 and 3. He urged people to go in their numbers and vote for Jonathan Moyo.

 

Mashonaland West-Hurungwe West Tense In Hurungwe West, on 16 May 2015, Keith Guzah, ZANU PF candidate for Hurungwe West, held a rally at  Sengwe Business Centre which was also attended by Vice President, Phekezela Mphoko. On the same day, MDC-T shadow Councillor for Hurungwe West, Chamunorwa Bvunzawabaya, MDC.T party supporters Simon Mapfudzanwa, Takawira Chiko and a Chiedza High school teacher, Munyaradzi Mariva were heavily assaulted by suspected ZANU PF youths for refusing to attend the rally.

 

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has started the voter registration exercise in Hurungwe West.

 

Harare East

 

Generally calm

 

ZANU PF National Commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere held a rally  on 20 May 2015  in Mabvuku-Tafara to drum up support for ZANU PF Harare East by-election candidate, Terence Mukupe where he urged party supporters to vote resoundingly for Mukupe. No cases of harassment were recorded.

 

Harare-Kambuzuma Generally calm ZANU PF candidate for Kambuzuma, Tinashe Maduza held a rally in Kambuzuma on 19 May 2015. At the rally he urged people to vote for him.

 

Manicaland-Headlands Tense ZANU PF candidate for Headlands constituency, Christopher Chingosho held a rally at Zambara Secondary School in Ward 34 on 18 May 2015 where he urged people to vote for him. The rally was also attended by Vice President Phekezela Mphoko. Those who failed to attend the rally were threatened with unspecified action by ZANU PF youth.

 

ZANU PF youths in the area launched a door to door campaign and are threatening villagers with death if their candidate fail to win the by election.

 

Harare- Dzivarasekwa Relatively calm MDC-T President Morgan Tsvangirai held a rally on 21 May 2015 at Chemhanza School. Before the meeting started, some ZANU PF youths camped at the venue to thwart the progress of the rally. They vowed that Dzivarasekwa now belonged to ZANU PF and only ZANU PF candidate for Dzivarasekwa in the June by election, Omega Sipani Hungwe was allowed to have a political rally in the area. The police later dispersed the youths to let the rally progress as initially planned.

 

Glen View South Relatively calm ZANU PF youth are allegedly removing posters for Independent Candidates ahead of the June 10 by election.

 

Bulawayo-Mpopoma Generally calm There are no intensive campaign rallies taking place in the area. ZANU PF youth believed to be loyal to ZANU PF candidate Tshinga Dube are removing and tearing posters for Independent candidates Joan Dhlodhlo and Sibangilizwe Msipa.
